Needham affordable‑housing small‑repair grant to be re‑released; commission asked to help publicize program

The commission was told the program has awarded about $200,000 in grants since February 2019. Eligible applicants must own their home, the property must be a primary residence, and at least one household member must be age 65 or disabled. Grants are intended for small home repairs and safety improvements such as railings, plumbing or electrical work, porch or step repairs and grab‑bar installation. Meeting participants said the typical award size is up to $5,000 per household and that there are income‑limit criteria for eligibility.
Commissioners suggested communicating the program through the senior center, the Compass newsletter, the commission’s web page and local media. The committee asked that a flyer and consolidated application information be created so the commission can distribute a single reference sheet to residents and partner organizations.
