Hearing officer inclined to recommend second mausoleum at Assumption Cemetery; decision set for June 4

DuPage County Zoning Hearing Officer Bob Carthal closed the public hearing March 21 on petition 25O25, filed by Assumption Cemetery, requesting conditional-use approval to construct a second mausoleum building on an approximately 27-acre parcel in Winfield Township. Carthal said he is "inclined to recommend in favor of your petition" and will issue a written recommendation on June 4 for transmission to the county development committee and the DuPage County Board.

Lisa Cassidy, the civil engineer on the project with V3 Companies, presented the site plan and architectural footprint for the proposed mausoleum and said the applicant also proposes to widen an existing drive aisle to allow vehicles to pull in and park briefly while visiting. Cassidy answered the conditional-use criteria on the record, saying the proposal would not impair light and air to adjacent properties, would not increase fire hazards, and would not unduly increase traffic congestion. On stormwater she pointed to existing detention and the project's drainage design.

Carthal said there were no objections from circulated authorities and that the cemetery's footprint on the submitted site plan matches the architectural plans. He noted that a time limit on a conditional use is sometimes appropriate but typically not when there is a substantial capital expenditure — a mausoleum was cited as such an example — and scheduled his recommendation for June 4. If the recommendation is favorable, the matter will proceed to the development committee and county board later in June.
