Liberal Club wins one‑day permit, extends hours and names new manager

The Fall River City Licensing Board on May 21 granted the Liberal Club a one‑day liquor permit, approved a requested change in regular operating hours and accepted Paul DeForge Jr. as the club’s new manager.

At the hearing, applicant representatives said the one‑day outdoor event planned for May 24 would feature food trucks, bands and a DJ and would run from noon to midnight. The board confirmed the club’s existing inside license and asked applicants to book police detail; the club said it had used DJs and held inside events previously without incident.

The board also considered the Liberal Club’s request to expand weekday and Sunday hours. The approved change allows later closing times on selected weekdays and extends Sunday hours (approved hours include Sunday 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Monday 10 a.m.–midnight, Tuesday–Thursday 10 a.m.–11 p.m., Friday–Saturday 10 a.m.–1 a.m.). During discussion members noted steady business at the club and said they had no records of prior enforcement problems.

For the change of manager, Paul DeForge Jr. told the board he has been helping at the club for several months and expects to work 40–50 hours per week; he said he has been a member for about 10 years. The board voted to approve DeForge as manager and recorded unanimous aye votes.

The board reiterated that police detail must be arranged for outdoor events and that proof of insurance and required bonds must be filed before licenses are issued.
