Janine Adamczyk and Deborah Bowling, fine-arts manager, provided details on service locations. Bowling read a list of schools served by Playworks during the 2024–25 school year, which included Barton, Brownstein, Browning, Franklin, Humboldt Park, King Elementary School, La Follette, Lowell, Milwaukee Spanish Immersion, Rogers Street, Derfler, Cass, Honey Creek, Kluge and Morgandale.
Shelly Perkins, director of state and federal programs, explained a large contract (described in the discussion as approximately $15,000,000) is for services required under federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) equitable-services obligations. As the local educational agency that receives federal ESEA funds, the district must provide equitable services to Milwaukee resident students who attend private schools. Perkins said the contract funds third-party providers who hire teachers to deliver Title I instruction, provide professional development for those teachers and offer family engagement activities for parents of the students served.
The administration told the committee it would provide follow-up details where requested, including which schools use specific providers. The committee asked that procurement and contract details be provided to members; Janine Adamczyk said she would supply the requested information the next morning for any outstanding questions.
The committee approved the contracts (excluding the pulled Mainstream Development extension) by a 5-0 vote.
