Board approves revised student anti‑harassment policy aligning with Title IX procedures

The Milwaukee School District committee voted to approve revisions to administrative policy 8.02, the district's student anti‑harassment and nondiscrimination policy, updating the policy to align with Title IX and federal implementing regulations.
Nicole Coleman, manager of student services, told the committee the revisions were prepared with NEOLA and updated to reflect Title IX requirements in Title 34 of the Code of Federal Regulations, part 106. The revised policy designates a Title IX coordinator, requires published grievance procedures, directs formal investigation and determinations on alleged discrimination and requires retention of records for each complaint and training materials.
No members of the public submitted speaker slips on the item. Director Vannoy moved to approve the administration's recommendation; roll call recorded five ayes and the motion passed.
The committee approved the policy as presented; the administration said it will implement the Title IX coordinator designation, grievance procedures and record‑keeping provisions required by federal rules.
