Pittsylvania supervisors adopt FY26 school budget and county budget totaling $257.6 million

The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved the county and school budgets for fiscal year 2026 on Tuesday, adopting a $132,471,056 school budget and a $257,574,766 countywide budget.
County finance staff presented the school budget and the overall budget during the meeting; the school budget includes a local contribution of $26,370,554. The school budget was presented as balanced at prior hearings and had satisfied the seven-day layover requirement prior to final action.
After the presentation, a supervisor moved to approve the school budget and the motion passed unanimously. The board then considered the full county budget, which incorporates the approved school appropriation. A motion to adopt the FY26 county budget and resolution 2025-05-10 passed unanimously. Both budgets are effective July 1, 2025.
County staff confirmed the budgets had been publicly advertised and that the required public hearings occurred on May 13, meeting statutory notice requirements prior to the votes.
What this means: The school division will receive the local contribution included in the FY26 package and county departments will operate under the adopted FY26 appropriations beginning July 1.
