The Town of Babylon Town Board on May 21 held a public hearing and reserved decision on a special permit application to build a three-story, 57 one-bedroom apartment building at 1449–1453 Straight Path in the Wyandanch corridor.
The applicant’s representative, Nicole Blanda, told the board the site is in the form‑based code’s Transect T3 and that, after review, town staff and planners concluded a three‑story apartment building would best fit the location and the Wyandanch revitalization plan. Blanda said the proposal includes a 20% affordable housing component.
The apartment project is identified as Planning Board job number 23-02DW and covers properties listed on Suffolk County tax map numbers O-100-505-3-8, O-100-505-3-9 and O-100-505-3-10. Blanda said the board could ask questions about the site plan but offered a brief description that the development would comprise 57 one‑bedroom units and an “attractive facade” that had undergone extensive departmental review.
No members of the public filed cards to speak on the item during the hearing. The board moved to close the public hearing and reserve decision: the motion to close was made by Councilman Mineta and seconded by Councilman Martinez; the board responded “Aye” and the hearing was closed and decision reserved.
The Town Board did not set a decision date during the meeting. The planning file and the town’s review records will govern subsequent steps and any conditions attached to a special permit, the transcript shows.
