Swart said the applicants and their consultants requested a delay to the decision until June 12 to give them additional time to address road maintenance requirements in the subdivision regulations; staff will provide a full report at that hearing.
During public comment, resident Jim Costamagna and others described long‑standing problems with Camas Road and the wider road network: they explained the county acquired an easement in the late 1970s and early 1980s and that the road is unmaintained, in poor condition year‑round, and functions as a single in/out route for many homes. Costamagna and other speakers urged the county to visit the site to better understand access and wildfire egress conditions and noted prior attempts to secure a right‑of‑way or better maintenance had not succeeded.
County staff and the public discussed potential remedies, including the possibility of forming a Rural Special Improvement District (RSID) to fund road maintenance; staff said prior outreach had not reached the threshold of landowner support but said the county could reopen discussions if local sentiment has changed.
Swart closed by repeating that the decision on the subdivision will be delayed to the Thursday, June 12, commissioners' public hearing at 2 p.m., when staff will present a full report and recommended motion.
