Council conditions several food truck licenses to PVD-organized events after reconsideration

The council initially entertained motions to grant applications pending required state health department permits and local licensing. After discussion about possible impacts on existing brick-and-mortar restaurants, members moved to reconsider two licenses and add a condition limiting those licenses to PVD Food Truck Events, which take place at Chase Farm and Higginson Avenue and any future PVD-run events in town.

Council members and staff clarified the licensing distinction: a town-issued mobile food license allows a vendor to operate, but use of public property still requires separate town permission; operation on private property requires permission from the private property owner. The council noted event dates listed on some applications (for example, a Memorial Day event at Chase Farm) but confirmed that the annual license is valid for a year and that conditions could restrict when and where a vendor may set up.

Formal action: motions were made and carried to (1) grant applications pending receipt of required state permits and licensing and (2) reconsider and amend two licenses so they are valid only for PVD Food Truck Events at Chase Farm, Higginson or other PVD-run events within town. The clerk was directed to withhold issuing licenses until all documentation is provided.
