Grant County Fiscal Court approves standing order to preapprove recurring payroll and operating expenses

Grant County Fiscal Court on May 20 adopted a standing order to preapprove certain recurring expenses so the county can pay payroll, utilities, insurance premiums, election officers and related recurring items without separate approval for each payment.
The standing order lists categories the court expects to preapprove, including payroll, utilities, insurance premiums, payments to election officers and election commissions, county clerk storage fees and training meal reimbursements. The court said the practice follows guidance from the Department for Local Government to ensure required payments are made timely.
During discussion, Magistrate Riley requested that magistrates be copied on payroll as it is processed so they can follow purchasing and PO documentation in real time; the court agreed to forward that request to county administrative staff. Magistrate Riley said, "That's the only standing one that I would like us to be receiving real time." The motion to adopt the standing order passed by voice vote.
The court noted that timely payment is important for election officers, who receive pay the day of or the day after an election, and that preapproval has worked well in prior elections.
