Board approves new student ticket prices to comply with House Bill 147

The Worthington Board of Education voted to approve student ticket prices for the 2024–25 athletic year to comply with recently enacted House Bill 147, Treasurer TJ Cusick told the board.
Cusick said the change ensures the district’s reduced student price is lower than the adult price, as required by HB 147. He reminded the board that Worthington students in grades 6 through 12 are admitted free of charge; the revised pricing affects visiting students and K–5 students.
Board members sought clarification about a line on the pricing chart that lists JV twice for different game configurations. Cusick explained the difference arises when a JV contest is paired as a dual game (one ticket admits to both JV and varsity) versus a standalone JV or freshman contest, which has a lower rate.
A board member asked whether a separate law requiring the ability to accept cash had come into effect; Cusick replied that requirement went into effect last fall and Worthington is already in compliance.
President Nikki Hudson called for the vote and members recorded yes votes. The motion passed. The board did not amend the policy language during the meeting.
