During public comment at the Jan. 9 meeting, Carolyn Eaker, a member of the Fairborn 75th celebration organizing group, asked the board for financial support and outlined a yearlong calendar of events.
Eaker said the celebration marks the union of Fairborn and Osborn and runs from Jan. 1 through the year. She asked the board to consider contributing through the Greene County Community Foundation and described planned events including a Homearama beginning the weekend of April 25 running for three weekends; a township picnic and pine box derby on June 7; a UFO festival in June; downtown events July 5โ6 including historical presentations about the Fairborn Theater; a semiformaldinner at the high school on Aug. 9; an all-class reunion at Wright State on Sept. 6; and a powder-puff game Oct. 8. Eaker said commemorative items are for sale through local outlets.
"I'm Carolyn Eaker, and I am a member of the Fairborn 75th celebration," she said. "I'm here on behalf of Pete Bates asking for money." Eaker directed interested donors to give through the Greene County Community Foundation and said local elected officials had been asked to contribute.
Board members did not take immediate action on the request during the meeting; Eaker said donation forms and commemorative merchandise are available at local businesses and the chamber of commerce.
