Worthington Summer projects: operations center purchase, play-structure replacements and roofs continue on schedule

Superintendent Dr. John Bowers updated the Worthington City Board of Education on June 10 about summer programs and facility projects, saying construction work is on track and that the district expects to close soon on a building planned as a consolidated operations center.
"We have over 1,600 students who will be in school and learning throughout the month of June," Dr. Bowers said, describing the district's summer school that began June 3 and noting free lunches are available at Slate Hill Elementary and Perry Middle School.
Dr. Bowers said construction continues at Thomas Worthington High School, Worthington Kilbourne High School and on the district natatorium. "The projects remain on time and on budget," he said. He added the district hopes to close this week on the "former Cineas Services Amazon building" and begin renovations to consolidate transportation, landscape and facilities maintenance and warehouse space into the new Worthington Operations Center, with full occupancy expected in early 2025.
The superintendent also noted play structures at Liberty Elementary are being replaced and roof work is underway at the Worthington Education Center. He said the cabinet met with the board for nearly five hours earlier in June to refine goals for the 2024—25 school year and that the district expects to finalize and publish those goals by the end of June.
The board did not take separate formal action on the facility updates during the meeting; the items were informational updates.
What happens next: the district will proceed with closing and renovation steps if closing documents are finalized, and staff said they plan to report progress in future meetings.
