Agreement with Common Ground Charter raises charter-services cost by $220,000, district says

The committee reviewed an agreement to provide special-education services to Common Ground Charter School and staff said the negotiated charge for this year represents an increase of $220,000.
Miss Jackson presented the item and said the district is beginning to phase in its own teachers — primarily from Teach For America (TFA) — for charter services in future years, but that for the current year the negotiated contract with Common Ground required the increase. "For this year, again, the negotiated contract was an increase, for, 2, $220,000 for common ground," Jackson said.
Staff said there is one charter school left that has not yet returned a contract; administration said it is continuing to work on agreements with charter partners. Committee members had no substantive objections in the discussion that followed and the Common Ground contract was included in the packet the committee voted to forward to the full board.
The committee did not adopt policy changes to charter funding or services; staff reiterated ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on outside contracts by building internal capacity over time.
