The Yarmouth Board of Health voted to change the licensing period for hazardous-materials registrations to the calendar year and to authorize an 18-month transitional license period for the one class of permits now on the fiscal year. Board members said aligning HazMat licensing with other town permits will make inspections and renewals more convenient for businesses and departments.
Health staff explained the change is administrative and not intended to change fees. The Board discussed two implementation options: issue six-month permits to bridge into January renewals or provide a single 18-month license so affected businesses update once and then return to an annual calendar schedule. The Board chose the 18-month transitional period to avoid placing an additional administrative burden on permit holders.
The Board’s motion to change the license period and adopt the 18-month bridge was seconded and approved by a voice vote. Board members said the Town Administrator reviewed the proposal and supported the administrative change.
