The modules under consideration include AI‑assisted draft reporting, automated transcription, a redaction assistant for open‑records video requests and live translation in multiple languages. A county presenter said the tools could cut report processing time and reduce overtime for officers.
Committee members and staff said the county ran a trial of the AI and transcription functions and observed time savings in officer report work. “AI is the way of the future,” the presenter told the committee, and staff reported an estimated reduction in report processing time during the trial.
The presenter described the redaction assistant as a way to automatically identify and mask faces across a video, saying it would reduce the hours now spent frame‑by‑frame redacting footage for public records requests. Staff also described auto transcription that adapts to regional speech and a translation function the presenter said supports multiple languages.
Supervisor Rick Stacy moved to create the new CIP and approve the contract expansion; Vice Chair Ken Monroe seconded the motion. The committee approved the request and forwarded the budget action to the Finance Committee for final authorization.
The presenter said the county is negotiating contract terms so policies and procedures are ready before activation and that an early‑summer signature would maximize savings by avoiding vendor price increases after July 1. The committee record indicates the item will next be considered by the Finance Committee.
No statutes, ordinances or other legal authorities were cited during the presentation. Committee discussion focused on operational savings, privacy controls in the vendor offering and timing for budget approval.
