At the May 21 meeting the board received an update on the Charter Harrison scholarship program for Lakeland Healthcare Center employees.

Staff reported the scholarship fund currently has $26,292 available. The program allows employees to apply for scholarship funds for tuition or books. Trustees were told the board awarded one scholarship last year, in the amount of $2,000, the largest award to date.

Applications are due to the director of nursing by June 30. Staff said they will return to the board at the July meeting with applicants’ names and a recommended award and amount for board consideration.

Discussion: Trustees expressed expectation that there will be multiple applicants; staff noted concurrent promotion of tuition-reimbursement options and outreach to nursing department employees.

Direction and next steps: Staff will accept applications through June 30 and present recommended awards for trustee consideration at the July meeting.
