Jason Bieber, representing Planning and Development Services, said the property at 1525 West Burnside is roughly 1 acre and the applicant, Sheila Peering of Pierring Properties LLC, seeks to demolish an existing commercial storage garage and construct a new two‑story apartment building. Bieber said the Planning Commission recommended approval 5-0.
Council members asked whether nearby residents had been contacted. Bieber said the city mailed notices within 300 feet and had not received calls or correspondence. Councilor Spellerberg moved to set the ordinance for a second reading June 3; Councilor Cole seconded the motion and the council approved it 8-0.
The item remains at first reading; a final adoption vote will occur at the scheduled second reading if the council proceeds then.
