School board approves governor-funded one-time bonuses for staff; payout scheduled for June 15

Chief Financial Officer presented the funding details, saying the governor provided $827,699 to the district and the superintendent's recommendation results in a required local contribution. The CFO stated the district can cover the local portion in the current budget and proposed paying the bonus on the June 15 payday.
When asked about cost, the CFO said the district would not pay TNTP or the VDOE for that partnership work and that the bonus funding provided by the governor is a one-time allocation for FY2025. Delegate Walker offered brief remarks thanking board members and praising state efforts to increase support for educators.
The board approved the motion to implement the bonus by roll call vote; the motion carried with recorded yes votes from Mr. Connor, Mr. Gillio, Mr. Andrews, Dr. Day, Dr. Gupta, Mrs. Preston, Mr. DePaul, Mrs. Lowry and Dr. Tinsley.
The CFO said the governor's allocation was $1,000 per SOQ position totaling $827,699. The recommended payout structure ($750 full time; $375 part time) and the district's local share were discussed; the CFO told the board he was comfortable that the $375 local share was available in the current budget and that the payout would occur on the June 15 payroll date. Board members did not request additional public hearings on the distribution plan during the session.
