Board approves $150 monthly technology supplement for school board members

Granville County Public Schools' board on Monday approved a $150 monthly technology supplement for board members to reimburse cell phone and internet expenses for the remainder of May and June of the current fiscal year and for fiscal year 2025–26.
Miss Hines, presenting under fiscal responsibility, said the supplement implements a policy provision that the board approves the supplement amount annually and that the district will include the amount in the budget. "We are recommending a $150 per month supplement for board members for related technology costs," she said.
Board members discussed whether a second reading or additional policy change was required; staff clarified that the board was only setting the annual supplement amount and not changing the policy language. A motion to set the rate and apply it immediately was made and seconded; the chair called for the ayes and the motion was adopted by voice vote.
The supplement will be paid for the remainder of the current fiscal year (May–June) and budgeted for FY2025–26 so the board will not need to revisit the amount immediately next year. The board did not request further changes to the policy at the meeting.
