Clinton County Highway reports paving progress, 50 miles slated for chip seal

Clinton County Highway Superintendent Rick Campbell told commissioners that crews have completed calcium applications on gravel roads, began paving 100 North and plan to chip-seal roughly 50 miles of road this season.
Campbell said Central Paving applied calcium last week and that paving started yesterday on 100 North; after that, crews will move to other sections and to 425. He told the board the season’s allocated funds for 2024 work had been spent.
Road crews also are hauling stone for chip-seal projects and performing wedge work on spots needing extra repairs. Campbell said the county has resumed removing railroad crossings as roads have dried.
The highway department is scheduled to receive a new mower on Thursday, and the operator will receive training Friday, Campbell said. When commissioners asked for a timetable to finish paving, Campbell said weather was a factor and he expected work to be done “next week sometime” if rain subsided.
