Middletown — A resident urged the City Council on May 20 to use the liquor license renewal process to address repeated shootings and quality‑of‑life problems at a business in his neighborhood.
Tanner Polisseni said multiple shootings had occurred near 3008 Titus, the business now operating as Emery’s Bar, and that neighbors had endured noise, litter and safety concerns. "With a place like this with the multiple shootings and, constant littering, constant noise complaints, I just think that that system is put in place for an incident like this," Polisseni said.
Councilmember West thanked Polisseni for raising the issue, said the police department had provided a strong response, and said council would take the liquor license renewal process seriously and weigh resident input. City officials noted the health department and health board review liquor licensing matters.
No formal action was taken at the meeting on the liquor license; councilmembers who spoke said they would follow up with city staff, the health department and the police department to ensure resident concerns are considered during any renewal process.
