Lake Stevens staff reported the pilot traffic-calming configuration on 116th/117th (Grade Road area) began May 5 and will run for four weeks. The pilot uses delineators and temporary striping to test reduced travel lanes, pedestrian spaces and other safety features.
Staff said the pilot is actively monitored; crews adjusted elements during the first days based on resident feedback. "Matter of fact, the team was out there making some adjustments today based on some feedback," a staff member said. The city has posted project metrics on its capital-projects webpage and will record speed, vehicle volume and pedestrian counts during the pilot so the council can compare before-and-after data.
Staff described plans for an after-study and a public open house on June 18 to review collected data, solicit additional feedback and present criteria that would determine whether to make changes permanent. Metrics listed on the project page include average speeds, vehicle queues, pedestrian counts and community sentiment, with qualitative categories listed as bad/good/better/great for comparison.
Council members asked for clarity about mail and garbage impacts; staff said crews monitored pickup and observed only minor, short backups and relocated a mailbox where needed. The pilot will continue to be monitored daily and adjusted where safety or operational issues arise.
