Will Webb, a volunteer with the Adams County Emergency Food Bank, told the Brighton City Council during public comment that the food bank is facing a funding crisis after cuts to support from the Food Bank of the Rockies and asked the city to consider partnering with local agencies and wards to organize food drives and seek grant money.
Webb said the Adams County Emergency Food Bank serves “approximately 1,400 members from the city of Brighton” but does not keep a more detailed frequency breakdown. He said about eight local facilities receive food from the food bank; one additional facility (named in the comment as “La Bridal Heights,” as pronounced) also receives support.
Webb said a new executive director, Stephanie Ward, is working with volunteers to secure resources and that the Brighton Housing Authority has already discussed potential grant opportunities and support for local distribution. He asked the council to consider coordinated help through wards, departments and community food drives.
An assistant city manager said staff have already been in contact and will follow up; the meeting record notes that staff follow-up is expected rather than a formal council directive. No formal action or funding commitment was made at the meeting.
