At its May 21 meeting the Wolfeboro Select Board voted unanimously to accept unanticipated funds from the Greater Wolfeboro chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) of up to $199,000 for improvements to the town’s Abenaki bike trail system.
Town staff presented a GIS-based map of the proposed work and said the donor and trail builders will provide an as-built map if trail alignments deviate from the plan. The board’s packet included a license agreement and amendment previously approved by the board; the NEMBA president spoke briefly to confirm trail features and offered to arrange follow-up site walks.
Why this matters: the board accepted the funds under RSA 31:95-b, III (acceptance of unanticipated funds over $10,000). Selectmen asked staff to include a clause allowing the $199,000 figure to be “up to” that amount so the town can account for lower actual costs if the final bids come in under budget.
Board members asked that trail builders notify town staff if informal or unauthorized trail construction appears in the area, so the town and NEMBA can coordinate removal or remediation. Staff agreed to confirm start dates and to coordinate invoicing and site walks as construction begins.
The motion was moved and seconded on the floor and the board voted in favor. Staff said they will schedule another pre-construction walk once logistics and invoicing details are finalized.
