Commission extends ankle- and alcohol-monitoring contract for released detainees

Taos County commissioners approved an extension to contract TCC2021-43A1R4 with Securious Monitoring Solutions to continue providing GPS and alcohol monitoring devices and associated case management for released detainees.
“It's been working out pretty well for us,” said Andrew Montoya, who presented the item, adding the county has used the contractor for “probably the last 4 years.” Montoya told the commission the contract has reduced costs compared with local providers: “Our contracts were running over $80,000 when we were using local providers. We're sitting about $30,000 now at the end of the years.”
Montoya said the county expects the Administrative Office of the Courts to provide funding for pretrial services in the near term, and that the county needs to extend the local contract at least one more year to cover people currently enrolled in the monitoring program. Vice Chair Romero moved the extension; Commissioner Brush seconded. The clerk called the roll and the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: the contract provides electronic monitoring and case management for individuals released from custody and the extension keeps the service in place while state funding flows to pretrial services.
