Council approves conditional-use permit for daycare at Real Life Ministries complex on South Cherry Street

The Tomball City Council on May 19 voted unanimously to adopt on first reading ordinance number 20 25 17, approving a conditional-use permit (CUP) for a daycare to operate inside the Real Life Ministries building at 1626 South Cherry Street.
City planner Greg (presentation name in packet) reviewed the site and neighborhood, noting surrounding land uses include single-family homes, professional offices and an industrial channel to the west. The property is zoned Office; the Office zoning district allows low-intensity professional uses and a daycare center is permitted by conditional use subject to supplemental standards.
Staff said the daycare would be located inside the church building, with a drop-off area on the site and three access points. Planning and Zoning unanimously recommended the CUP (5–0) with no recommended conditions. The council’s approval was limited to the daycare use described in the application; council members clarified that conversion to a school would require a separate submittal and review.
Greg said staff found the proposal consistent with the city’s future land use plan and not materially detrimental to adjacent properties. The motion to adopt the ordinance on first reading carried unanimously.
