The Lufkin City Council approved a resolution to accept a $45,000 Edward R. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant and adopted a budget amendment to appropriate the funds for the police department.
Staff said the award will be used to replace the department’s computer forensic workstation and to provide training on the new system so investigators can handle digital evidence more efficiently. “This year, we were able to receive the funds, dollars 45,000. And these funds will be utilized to replace the computer forensic workstation and some additional training on the new system,” staff told the council.
Council conducted the required public hearing for acceptance of the grant; no public comments were offered. Council voted to adopt the resolution authorizing acceptance of the grant and the budget amendment appropriating the funds.
