The Lufkin City Council voted to approve on second reading a zoning change to commercial for a 14-acre tract at 3068 East Dimond Avenue to permit commercial development and relocation of Ross Motorsports.
The Lufkin City Council approved on second reading an ordinance rezoning a 14-acre tract at 3068 East Dimond Avenue from its current classification to commercial to allow commercial development and the relocation of Ross Motorsports.
City staff presented the request and said the property, currently occupied by multiple structures, is designated commercial in the comprehensive plan and falls within the rural residential planning focus area. “The comprehensive plan designation for the properties is commercial, and they fall within the rural residential planning focus area,” staff said. Planning and Zoning Commission recommended unanimous approval and staff advised that the request is consistent with surrounding uses and the thoroughfare plan that identifies East Emman Avenue as a major thoroughfare.
The council opened a public hearing and, with no speakers stepping forward on the record, moved to council discussion. A motion to approve the zoning change was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the mayor announced, “That motion carries.”
The ordinance clears the way for the property owner to proceed with commercial development and the planned relocation of Ross Motorsports, subject to any subsequent permits and site requirements under city regulations.
