Board approves 2025–26 calendar change, converts April 6 to no‑school and May 22 to half day

Administration recommended converting April 6 (Easter Monday) from an in‑service day to a no‑school day for staff and students and moving the May 22 in‑service day to a half day for students and staff so staff would not need to return May 26 for training. The recommendation was described as “to capture back to get to the 188 day calendar.”
Board members discussed concerns about half days and parental logistics. One board member warned, “we try to get away from half days because I fear…parents working, kids going home with an empty house.” Administration said it would communicate the change widely in building newsletters, links and alerts.
A motion to approve the calendar adjustment was made by Derek Nes and seconded by David Bauer; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Administrators said the district will emphasize communication to families in March through May to reduce confusion about the single half day at the end of the year.
