Newton County finance director reports April 2025 revenues ahead of expenditures; SPLOST collections exceed projections

Newton County Finance Director Britney White presented the April 2025 financial report to the Board of Commissioners on May 20, telling the board the county is about 84% through its fiscal year and revenues and expenditures remain within expected ranges.
White said general fund revenues to date were $88.9 million, roughly 89% of budget, and general fund expenditures were $79.7 million (about 80% of budget), leaving revenues about $9.2 million ahead of expenditures at this point in the fiscal year. She noted the county will continue to draw those figures down as the year closes in June.
Enterprise fund summaries reported $10.3 million in water revenues with $6.3 million in expenses; solid waste showed $8.4 million in revenue and $6.2 million in expenses; an internal fund for Gaithers and Factory Shoals showed $186,000 in revenue and $223,000 in expenses to date. White said the county’s 2023 SPLOST collections were $39.8 million to date, about $8.3 million over the original projection and that some bonded SPLOST projects show temporary negative balances due to drawdowns.
White also reported $1.9 million in impact fees and noted new public-safety buckets were created to collect impact-fee funds for future use. Commissioners thanked the finance director; no budget adjustments were enacted at the presentation other than items later discussed in the meeting.
