The Bell Street scope described in the proposal calls for milling and filling to a depth of 1 to 1.5 inches across an 18-inch-wide section that runs approximately 1,275 feet (about 2,550 square yards). The price for that work is $48,400. For the Route 3 repair, the GMI proposal covers materials and labor to complete a permanent trench repair where a water main failed, with traffic to be routed through adjacent parking lots, flaggers provided if needed, and the town supplying an officer during the work; that proposal’s total is $26,900.
Board members and staff discussed coordination with the state’s ongoing sidewalk and drainage work in the same area and said they will confirm scheduling to avoid peak traffic and school-bus periods. Staff also said they would ask property owners (the Clark family was mentioned) for permission to use adjacent parking lots for temporary traffic routing during the Route 3 work.
The board directed staff to return contract documents and notices of award to a workshop if needed so as not to delay start dates. Staff said they expected to have bid results by late afternoon the day bids were due and would prepare a notice of award if the board wished to proceed.
No public comment was recorded on the two contracts during the discussed segment of the meeting.
Looking ahead, staff and board members flagged timing concerns: the board discussed starting work before Labor Day to avoid peak season traffic and coordinating with the state’s paint/striping schedule so freshly patched areas are striped promptly.
