Burnsville proclaims May 18–24, 2025 Military Appreciation Week; honors nine students headed to military service

Mayor Elizabeth Kautz proclaimed May 18–24, 2025 as Military Appreciation Week, highlighting students who have committed to military service, and volunteers from Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon presented recognitions and tokens of appreciation.
Retired Colonel Mike Huddleston, volunteer coordinator for Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, said the group has recognized more than 20 students to date and introduced nine students honored at the meeting. Huddleston told the students, "Service above self is more than just a motto. It's a way of life," and thanked families, local veteran organizations and city partners for their support.
Each honored student received a gift bag that included a $50 Target gift card, a red, white and blue honor cord to wear at graduation and a challenge coin from the organization. The Burnsville Glenn C. Turner VFW Post 5833 donated U.S. flags for distribution, and the city invited attendees to refreshments after the presentation. The presentation included representatives from the Burnsville VFW, Burnsville Savage Lions and Dakota County Veterans Services and participating military recruiters.
The presentation was ceremonial and intended to recognize students and community partners; no formal council action or funding authorization was recorded during the meeting.
