Burnsville proclaims May 22, 2025 as Police City Hall Project Groundbreaking Day

Mayor Elizabeth Kautz proclaimed May 22, 2025 as Police City Hall Project Groundbreaking Day and invited residents to a groundbreaking celebration at City Hall, the mayor said at the council meeting.

Reading the proclamation, Kautz said the existing police and city hall facility, built in 1988, "no longer meets the evolving needs of a growing and diverse community" and described the project as an investment to improve accessibility, safety and community connection. The city scheduled a groundbreaking event for May 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a program starting at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The proclamation said the project will provide "welcoming and inclusive spaces for the public, improved access to city service, enhanced training and wellness facility for our Police Department," language the mayor read from the packet. The proclamation was presented to members of the city facilities team; the transcript notes Rebecca, director of parks, recreation and facilities, and a staff member named Garrett receiving the document. Police and fire leadership were also on stage during the presentation.

The item was a ceremonial proclamation to mark the groundbreaking date and encourage community participation; the transcript records no accompanying ordinance, vote or budget action during the meeting.
