Council schedules discussion on compensation for incoming 2026 council for July 8 Committee of the Whole

Council Member Parsons asked the City Council to place a discussion of council compensation on the July 8 Committee of the Whole agenda, saying, “I would like to seek the Council's approval that we bring the issue of Council compensation to the Committee of the Whole on July 8.”
Parsons noted the item follows prior work sessions and that staff had provided comparative compensation figures for other councils in Alabama. Council members responded in favor: “I would welcome that conversation,” one member said, and another added, “So would I.”
The mayor clarified that the July 8 session will be a discussion only and not a decision night: “There will be a discussion and there will be no decisions made at that night,” the mayor said. Staff were directed to place the item on the Committee of the Whole agenda for July 8.
