County approves two rezonings for commercial uses in towns of Sumner and Pigeon

The Trempealeau County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved two zoning ordinance changes on May 19, rezoning parcels in the towns of Sumner and Pigeon to commercial use for local businesses.
Sumner parcel: the board adopted an ordinance to rezone approximately 5.89 acres from Exclusive Agriculture‑2 (EA‑2) to Commercial (C) to allow an automotive shop northeast of the city of Osseo with access from County Road R. Environment and Land Use staff reported the town of Sumner supported the request, notice and adjoining‑landowner letters were sent, and no correspondence opposing the rezone was received. The board approved the ordinance by roll call, 17‑0.
Pigeon parcel: the board adopted an ordinance to rezone approximately 1 acre in the Town of Pigeon from EA‑2 to Commercial for a discount grocery and craft store. The town of Pigeon provided a supporting letter; staff reported two residents attended the public hearing with concerns about access and easements but that the committee determined the driveway will be off Hauge Road and the easement question did not affect the rezoning. The Environment and Land Use Committee recommended approval; the board passed the ordinance by roll call, 17‑0.
Both rezonings were presented by Environment and Land Use staff, who noted notices were published and abutters were notified; no additional county action was required following the ordinances’ adoption on May 19.
