KILLEEN, Texas — The City of Killeen approved a memorandum resolution authorizing the award of naming rights to Zenni USA for the Family Aquatic Center and four athletic fields in the Killeen Athletic Complex.
Antonio Murphy presented the sponsorship package and said the proposed agreement would commit Zenni USA to $25,000 per year for five years with options for two additional five-year renewals. After the contract commission owed to the city’s consultant and an estimated $5,925 signage cost (shared with the sponsor), staff estimated the city’s annual net would be about $20,000 under the initial term.
Sportsman Solutions, the city’s sponsorship consultant, evaluated facility value using metrics such as facility amenities, foot traffic, visibility and type of naming rights. Staff said the city would approve final signage designs and that the contract would allow the parties to renegotiate terms at each five-year renewal.
Council members asked whether the city could renegotiate pricing if facility improvements increase the venue’s value during the contract term; staff said reassessment and renegotiation could be done at the five-year renewal point, not during the initial five years. One councilmember expressed concern about one sponsor holding multiple naming rights across many facilities in the city; staff said interested parties can express interest at any time and that the city retains the right to pursue additional sponsorships on other properties.
Staff recommended council approve the agreement. Council approved the memorandum resolution as part of the consent agenda.
