Commission accepts $10,000 state grant to fund seasonal weed-control labor

Beaver County commissioners authorized acceptance of a $10,000 state grant on May 20, 2025, to fund part-time seasonal labor for county weed-control work and public information activities.
County staff said the grant would pay labor and outreach costs and is a reimbursement grant; the packet shows a plan for 520 hours of labor and a $2,070 public-information line item. In the meeting packet staff described the budget line items; transcript language on the labor line included the phrasing "labor would be $79.30 at $15.25 with 520 hours," and staff said the total grant amount is $10,000.
Staff said the county may request up to 75% of grant funds in advance with documentation and that the county can structure the work as six weeks of full-time labor or spread the hours over a longer period. The temporary employee(s) would assist the county weed-control coordinator with backpack spraying and other work focused on early treatment of invasive plants in meadows and mountain areas where truck-mounted equipment is not effective.
Commissioners voted to sign the grant contract with the state and authorize grant acceptance and administration. County staff said the grant will offset overtime or temporary-labor costs and asked authorization to begin hiring and scheduling the position under the grant guidelines.
