Commission approves $17,780 Rocky Mountain Power contract to supply new service at county road shed

Beaver County commissioners on May 20, 2025, approved a contract with Rocky Mountain Power to install a new overhead service and transformer to supply power to a county road shop. The county described the work as a safer, faster alternative to waiting for a ground transformer and burying the service line through the yard.
County staff explained that an overhead line and pole on the south side of the property would allow Rocky Mountain Power to hang a transformer on the pole and provide a short run into the building, rather than tying into the line the county had been burying. Staff said the overhead transformer approach would be faster and more accessible; a ground transformer could have required an 8- to 12-month wait.
The contract cost presented to commissioners was $17,780.16. Staff said the configuration moves service out of the yard and reduces the chance of vehicle contact with equipment. Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the contract and voted in favor.
County staff said Rocky Mountain Power will set a new pole, hang the transformer and complete the service connection; staff expect the building service to be in place by June, weather and scheduling permitting.
