The San Felipe-Del Rio CISD Board of Trustees on Monday approved administration’s recommendation to donate surplus furniture from Garfield Elementary to local government agencies and schools in Mexico, and officials said principals will be given a chance to request needed items before donation.
Amy Childress said the furniture surplus stems from preparations tied to the middle-school redesign. She told trustees the district will offer principals a worksheet to request pieces before any furniture is donated or shipped; the district uses several “excess positions” and reserves to manage transitions in staffing and assets.
The administration recommended approval of the donation. The minutes record a motion to approve the donation that carried unanimously. Trustees asked whether staff on other campuses would be offered items; district staff responded that principals will receive a worksheet to request items prior to distribution.
The district indicated potential recipients could include local government agencies and schools in Mexico; no shipping or transfer logistics or costs were detailed during the meeting.
