Council approves several construction change orders for housing, sewer and park projects

The council approved three construction change orders affecting residential development, roadway and park projects.
City staff described a $21,350 change order to install 305 linear feet of 24-inch HDPE storm sewer in the Warren Brock residential housing development. Staff said the buried pipe between planned inlets on Garfield and Grant streets would reduce the size of required drainage easements and lessen the need for a deep, maintenance-prone ditch behind new lots. A motion to approve the change order to Metro Construction carried by voice vote.
Separately, council members approved Change Order No. 2 for the block/Tudorbach residential development: a $460,563.90 contract increase to extend 12-inch sanitary sewer under Gun Club Road roughly 500 feet east from the substation, then turn north to stub out for future industrial lots. Staff explained the work requires an 18-foot deep installation to provide capacity to serve eastward development and to avoid repeatedly reopening Gun Club Road for future crossings. Metro Construction will stage work to minimize conflicts with ballfield access; staff said heavy construction likely will occur after the ball season.
Council also approved a $14,313.12 change order to Gil Haugen Construction for patio, sidewalk and stonework associated with the clubhouse patio addition; staff said poor subsoils and additional fill drove the increase and that combining roof and patio work saved money compared with separate projects.
Motions on each change order were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote; the meeting record shows "motion carries" for each item but does not list individual recorded roll-call votes.
