Medina County approves $1.85 million McDAC grant and launches renewal levy for ballot

Medina County commissioners on an unanimous roll call approved a resolution authorizing $1,847,096.27 in grant funding for program year 2025–2026 for McDAC and authorized initiation of a renewal levy to be placed on the Nov. 2025 ballot, County Administrator Matt Springer said.
The funding package covers seven entities, including the county drug task force and local school districts that host school resource officers; the county will now work with the auditor’s office on levy projections for the ballot measure.
Springer told commissioners the grant helps support school resource officers throughout the county. During discussion, a commissioner underscored that the proposed levy is a straight renewal and that in recent years McDAC funds have focused on the Drug Task Force and school resource officers.
The vote approving the package was taken together with other county resolutions; the motion carried on a roll call with the commissioners present voting in favor. The county has directed staff to coordinate levy language and timing with the Medina County Auditor’s Office ahead of the November ballot.
No statutory citations were invoked during the discussion; the county described the levy as a renewal, not a new tax. The resolution does not itself appropriate new local tax revenue — it initiates the ballot placement and authorizes the county to prepare levy projections and necessary paperwork.
