Trustees agree to add city (and possibly state) to public comment card; policy goes to first reading

The Burnsville Public School District policy committee reviewed a recommendation to update Policy 206, which governs public participation and complaints, by adding a city-of-residence field to the listening-session registration card.
Supporters said adding city of residence would help staff verify that speakers have a relationship to the district while avoiding requests for full addresses; a trustee suggested adding both city and state to the card.
A presenter working with Dr. Battle said the goal is to ensure listening-session participants have a relationship with the ISD 191 community while mitigating concerns about sharing full addresses. One board member suggested including city and state to capture out-of-district speakers who might be district employees living in nearby communities. The committee agreed the change would aid staff vetting and advanced the revision for first reading.
The revision was set for first reading and will return for final action in the board's June meetings.
