Marshfield committee approves temporary hour increases for two library employees

The Marshfield Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee on May 20 recommended that the Common Council approve increasing hours for two existing library employees to cover work left by a vacated 16-hour-per-week casual position.
Jill, the library director, told the committee the library “had a 16 hour per week employee who's no longer with us” and recommended increasing a current 32-hour employee to 40 hours and a 20-hour employee to 24 hours. She said the change “totals 12 hours, not quite the 16 we had, but we believe we can make this work.” Jill also said the city would pay Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) contributions on both positions but still expect “a slight savings of about $1,500.”
Committee members moved and seconded the recommendation to approve; members voted in favor. The recommendation will go to the Common Council for final approval. The change is intended to reduce training time and ramp-up during the library’s busiest period, the summer reading challenge, by retaining experienced staff rather than onboarding a new casual employee.
