Peninsula NJROTC highlights leadership programs, wins and selects cadets for DC Memorial Day parade

Peninsula High School’s NJROTC cadets gave a detailed report March 20 on leadership training, competitions and enrollment growth and said they will represent Washington state in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.
Cadet Commander Ryan Anderson and other cadet leaders outlined a year of activities: leadership camps (NWLA and NWYLC), field trips including aircraft carrier visits and a BrainBrawl academic competition, seasonal drill and marksmanship competitions, and community service. Cadet Ryan Anderson noted the program’s growth — the freshman class had 47 cadets this year compared with roughly 23–24 in past years — and that unit activities produced scholarship opportunities and enlistments.
Cadet Isabella Viterino, chief of staff, and Cadet Command Master Chief Nathaniel Hulsey described competitive results: BrainBrawl placed first in area and sixth in regionals, marksmanship and academics teams placed highly in regional events, and physical training squads placed among top ranks in competitions. The unit reported 3,200 community-service hours for the year.
Leaders also described an upcoming honor: cadets said they will travel to Washington, D.C., to march in the 250th National Memorial Day Parade and participate in multiple national sites and ceremonies. The selection followed a Grand Marshal’s award at a Bremerton parade that brought national organizers’ attention. Cadet leaders said the trip includes Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery and televised participation in the parade.
No board action was required. Board members congratulated cadets and said the unit’s activities align with district goals for leadership, civic engagement and post‑secondary success.
