City staff presented a proposal at the May 20 work session to authorize a $100,000 capital outlay note to purchase police vehicles, a scaled-back reauthorization from the $373,500 figure included in the current fiscal-year budget. Chief Financial Officer Crystal Pickle explained the change was intended to reduce future debt-service pressure for the police department.
Pickle said the $100,000 request is a redo of the previously authorized amount and that staff expects to secure financing, if approved, before the end of fiscal year 2025. A commissioner noted the term of the loan is five years during the discussion.
No formal vote was recorded at the work session; the item was presented to the commission for consideration during the budget cycle and will require formal approval at a regular meeting or by ordinance.
