The Glynn County Island Planning Commission on May 20 approved a village-preservation design-review application for signage at 539 Ocean Boulevard, the location of Shutt Seafood. The sign had been installed prior to obtaining village-preservation approval and the applicant submitted a signage permit application after installation.
Planner Christopher Carey told commissioners the building was repainted and the black-and-white sign does not conflict with the area's character. “The design and colors do not violently conflict with the area,” Carey said. Staff also noted the building had an interior-renovation permit and that a sign-permit application was filed.
The applicant, who identified themself as the new owner, said they inherited the project and would complete permitting. A commissioner moved to approve VP-25-5 as presented; the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will process the signage permit and the applicant will complete any remaining documentation tied to the village-preservation approval.
