Mooresville — Town staff told the council the town has awarded construction for the Pioneer Park improvements to a contractor and expects work to begin early June, with completion anticipated 8 to 10 months later.
The parks report said town staff awarded the building contract to Meyer and AGM and are completing final permitting and local approvals. Equipment is expected to start arriving around June 2; the contractor estimates an 8–10 month construction schedule, putting completion in early to late spring 2026.
Planned work includes new pickleball courts, a stormwater management system on Pioneer Park’s northern side to address historic runoff and flooding, trail improvements, a new shelter (bringing the park total to eight rentable shelters), and a full four-season restroom that will be heated and air-conditioned. The report said the project budget draws on redevelopment-commission funds, park cash on hand and a Ready 2 grant; staff said the combined budget is just under $4,200,000 and much of the spending will be infrastructure not immediately visible to park users.
Separately, the parks board executed a petition to annex a parcel purchased at the end of 2024; staff said the town will present the petition to legal counsel and follow the code process (cited in the meeting as “30Six-four35.50.1”) for public readings and council consideration. Council members were invited to ask questions; none altered the stated timeline.
The parks director said staff had met with permitting officials and did not expect major permitting obstacles. The town will proceed with final permitting and return to council for required annexation readings.
