The Tooele City Library Board reviewed and approved a routine update to the library's Internet access and computer-use policy that staff said is required to be reviewed every three years under state law.
Library staff said the revisions are largely grammatical and include clarifications that the library blocks access to content that is harmful to minors, obscene or is online gambling as required by Utah law, and that violations are subject to enforcement under the library's Standards of Conduct. "We have filtering in place and people cannot access child [harmful content] or obscene ... in accordance with Utah State code," staff said.
The policy language was also clarified to outline the tiers of enforcement referenced in the Standards of Conduct — for example, temporary removal from the building for a day, longer suspensions or permanent exclusion — with implementation details handled under the Standards of Conduct policy.
Board members moved, seconded and approved the minor edits as presented. Staff said the changes correct grammar, break up a long paragraph for clarity, and add explicit references to enforcement tiers; no substantive program changes were reported.
