Community development reports steady permitting, hurricane-repair wind-down; Lyles Hotel interior nearly finished, elevator and exterior stucco work remain

Community Development staff reported that overall permit activity has remained level as the city exits the height of the busy season and the hurricane-repair workload diminishes.
The department told the council inspections have remained steady; after heavy rain the previous Monday staff recorded a low-inspection day, "I think we're down about 130 inspections that day," the Community Development speaker said, and typical daily inspections recently have averaged "somewhere 180 to 220 ish." Staff said lobby activity has begun to fall while field inspections continue.
Staff said many residents are finishing hurricane-repair work and pursuing 50% rules as insurance proceeds are used to complete projects. A handful of new multifamily developments are under construction, with several others in zoning or permitting; staff said a relatively busy zoning calendar is expected this summer.
Separately, council members asked about the Lyles Hotel work included on the consent agenda. Staff updated the council: "The Lyles Hotel interior, as you know, was, we pretty much had to gut the building for, renovations and most of those are complete. The the few little hiccups we have is an elevator so we are kind of still working through the elevator portion but we we are close to being finished on the interior. The exterior that we're requesting today it's some stucco work mainly and water's getting behind that so we do need to try to get that going, going into this hurricane season so the work will be starting ASAP." A council member also noted the hotel's fountain is operational.
The department briefed the council on planned ADA upgrades to an intersection and on an outside request (Trust for Public Land) to explore a Safe Streets for All acquisition grant (discussed separately). Staff did not request any immediate policy changes on permitting at the meeting; they said they would return with zoning items this summer as projects move forward.
